Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu train station

Does the Ollantaytambo train station run all year?

  • There are 4 train stations heading to Machu Picchu: the San Pedro, Poroy, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo stations . Of all of them, only Ollantaytambo station operates throughout the year.
  • Every year, from January 1 to April 30, passengers must board their train at Ollantaytambo station . But for this period the Urubamba station will also be operating normally. The San Pedro and Poroy stations will not be open to the public, and the trains that depart from these last two will do so from the Ollantaytambo station through the Bimodal service . This restriction is also given for the local train.

Recommendations to board the train service to Machu Picchu

  • Anticipate the time you will need to get from Cusco to Ollantaytambo . Normally, buses take about 1 hour 30 minutes. However, the rainy season (from January to April) will make drivers drive more calmly.
