How is the itinerary?

The tour begins with the pick up of the tourist at the door of his hotel in the city of Cusco. Then you travel by tourist transport to the town of Lares, where you can relax in the thermal baths of the place. That first day, in the afternoon, the hike to the village of Wacahuasi takes place. The second day you reach the highest point, then descend to the Yanahuara camp. The third day is a short hike and then travel by bus and train to the town of Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, respectively. The last day is dedicated to visit Machu Picchu.

1 Cusco – Lares – Wacahuasi

  • The day before the tour, the guide will meet with tourists in the lobby of one of Cusco's hotels to provide a briefing.
  • On the day of the tour, you will be picked up from your hotel door between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m.
  • After pickup, we'll travel aboard the tourist transport to the town of Lares. Before arriving in Lares, we'll stop in the town of Calca to rest a bit from the trip and do some last-minute shopping.
  • The first activity in Lares will be relaxing in its open-air hot springs surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Afterward, we'll enjoy lunch with the entire group.
  • After a short rest, we'll get ready to begin the hike. In the afternoon, we'll hike uphill for four hours until we reach the Huacahuasi camp, approximately 3,600 meters above sea level.
  • Wacahuasi is famous for its textile centers and llama and alpaca herding. There, after a dinner prepared by our chefs, we'll spend the night in our camps, equipped to withstand the cold.

2 Wacahuasi – Auroray Cocha – Yanahuara

  • Early in the morning we will wake up with a hot cup of tea and a nutritious breakfast (with vegetarian options upon request).
  • We'll then resume our hike to the top of Huacahuasi Mountain, where we'll get one of the best panoramic views of our adventure.
  • The hike will continue for approximately one hour until we reach the village of Auroray Cocha. There, our chef will be waiting for us with a delicious lunch of the day.
  • After lunch, we will continue our hike downhill until we reach the Yanahuara camp, located at 2,963 meters above sea level.
  • In Yanahuara, we'll enjoy a pleasant dinner with our entire team. There, we'll also spend our last night camping under the stars.

3 Yanahuara – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

  • The third day will start early at 6:30 a.m. with a nice cup of hot tea and a delicious breakfast.
  • The first hike of the day will be a short downhill walk to reach the main highway in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
  • There, a tourist shuttle will be waiting to take us to the town of Ollantaytambo. This trip takes only 30 minutes.
  • In the famous town of Ollantaytambo, we'll enjoy lunch at a tourist restaurant. We'll also have time to explore the town's historic streets, its market, and, optionally (not included in the tour), the Ollantaytambo archaeological site.
  • At the time indicated by the tour guide, we will meet and board the Expedition tourist train to travel from Ollantaytambo to the town of Aguas Calientes (approximately 2 hours).
  • In Aguas Calientes, an assistant will transfer us to our resort hotel. After settling in, we'll enjoy a delicious dinner at a local resort restaurant.
  • We'll then have free time to stroll through the town of Aguas Calientes. Finally, we'll spend the night at our resort hotel.

4 Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

  • On the last day, we'll wake up around 6:00 a.m. to enjoy a nutritious American-style breakfast at the resort hotel.
  • After breakfast, we'll board the Consettur eco-friendly bus, which will take us uphill to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu in just 30 minutes.
  • In Machu Picchu, we'll tour the archaeological site with our professional tour guide. The tour follows the classic circuit, including visits to the most famous temples and buildings. We'll also have free time to take the classic postcard photo of Machu Picchu.
  • At the time indicated by the tour guide, we will return by Consettur bus (a 30-minute ride) to the town of Aguas Calientes. Tourists who have booked a buffet lunch at the Tinkuy restaurant will optionally have lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge restaurant, next to Machu Picchu.
  • In Aguas Calientes, we'll have free time to have lunch on our own (not included in the tour) and stroll through the town's picturesque streets.
  • Finally, at the time indicated by our tour guide, we will meet at the station and board the Expedition train (optional Vistadome service for an extra charge) that will take us to Ollantaytambo.
  • Then, in Ollantaytambo, we will travel on the "Bimodal" bus, included in the train ticket, to the Wanchaq station in the city of Cusco.
  • The tour ends with a transfer from the train station to the tourist's hotel or a central point in the city at approximately 9:00 p.m.

The camping equipment included in the Lares trek

The tour includes the basic camping equipment for the trek: tents, camping mattress and canvas bag. Does not include sleeping bag or trek poles. The sleeping bag is a necessary personal item that the tourist must carry with them. The tour also includes transfer of utensils with muleteers and horses. It also includes, in addition to what is described, water, morning infusion, first aid kit and oxygen cylinder.

    The food on the tour is based on dishes prepared by our chefs (during the camps) and in tourist restaurants (in Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes). If requested in advance, a vegetarian food option can be chosen.

    The Lares trek is available all year. However, it is recommended to do it from April to December. This is because from January to March the rains are much more intense.

    To the Lares trek it is recommended to bring: sleeping bag, trekking poles (1 or 2), sportswear (windbreaker jacket and thermal pants recommended), hat, sunscreen, warm jacket for the night, changes of clothes, personal hygiene items , cell phone batteries, basic medicines and everything in a backpack that does not exceed 5 kilos in weight.
